Andy Burnham MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, on today’s A&E waiting figures, said:
“Patients are waiting hours on end to be seen in England’s A&E. And yet David Cameron and his Ministers deny that A&E is in crisis.
"This dangerous complacency can’t go on. That is why, in the absence of leadership from the Government, Labour has called a debate in Parliament on A&E services next Wednesday.
"David Cameron broke his promise of ‘no top-down re-organisation’ - and threw the NHS into chaos. He made it harder to get a GP appointment, closed a quarter of NHS Walk-in Centres and made deep cuts to social care support - all the ingredients for the current A&E crisis.
"2013 has been the worst year in a decade in A&E and David Cameron’s fingerprints are all over it. It is yet more proof that you cannot trust the Tories with the NHS.”
