Angela Eagle MP, Labour’s Shadow Leader of the House, commenting as part two of the Lobbying Bill returns to the House of Lords, said:
“David Cameron was forced to apply the brakes to this sinister and badly drafted Bill when it looked like he was about to lose key votes. Now, instead of having used his pause to listen and learn, he’s simply sitting on his hands.
“David Cameron’s unamended gagging Bill will have a chilling effect on our democracy. It lets vested interests off the hook whilst shutting ordinary people out from having a say in our politics. No wonder the public think he stands up for the wrong people.
“Even at this late stage the Government must think again.”
