Douglas Alexander MP, Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, responding to the announcement that the UK will give additional support to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons, said:

“It is right that Britain uses its world-class facilities to make this contribution to destroying Syria’s chemical stockpile.

“Of course, this must be done in a safe and secure way that allows these chemicals to be put beyond use.

“We welcome that the Government has already given assurances that it will implement the tightest safeguards to ensure the secure passage, handling, and destruction of these chemicals in the UK.”
