Mary Creagh MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, commenting on the first day that the rail network will be back to a full number of commuters, with workers who took rest of last week off and schools and colleges returning for the first time since fares increased, said:

“David Cameron’s cost-of-living crisis continues as commuters returning to work today face fare rises of up to five per cent, while season tickets have gone up by twenty per cent under this Government, costing hard-working commuters hundreds of pounds.

“Over the last three years David Cameron has failed to stand up for working people, allowing train companies to hit passengers with inflation-busting fare rises of up to nine per cent.”
