Jon Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Office Minister, responding to Francis Maude calling the implementation of Universal Credit ‘lamentable’, said:
“Francis Maude has now finally admitted that the implementation of Universal Credit has been wasteful and ‘lamentable’.
“The sad truth is David Cameron and Iain Duncan Smith have broken their promise to deliver Universal Credit ‘on time and on budget’ with £40 million of taxpayers money written off so far, and £91 million written down.
“But there are clearly serious question Francis Maude now has to answer about his role and that of the Cabinet Office in this embarrassing shambles.”
