Sadiq Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on the announcement from the Cabinet Office that Serco will be allowed to bid for further Government contracts, said:

“This statement from the Cabinet Office seems rather premature as The Serious Fraud Office is still investigating allegations of irregularities against both Serco and G4S in relation to their Ministry of Justice contracts for electronic tagging.

“It would have been more sensible to await the outcome of the SFO investigation. Instead, the Government has decided that the company is fit once again to pick up multi-million pound taxpayer contracts. "Those worried at the Government’s reckless and half-baked plans to privatise probation will want reassuring that this won’t lead to Serco taking over supervision of dangerous and violent offenders”
