Response to Public Accounts Committee report on maternity services - Andrew Gwynne
Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, commenting on the Public Accounts Committee report on maternity services, said:
“Yet another report highlights staffing shortages in the NHS.
"Before the election, David Cameron cynically promised 3000 more midwives but he’s failed to deliver them. It’s yet another broken promise on the NHS from the Tories.
"Under the Tories, maternity units across England are being downgraded or face closure. The lack of midwives has left some departments with no alternative but to temporarily shut their doors.
"New mums are being badly let down. You can’t trust David Cameron with the NHS.”
