Juries being as representative as possible of all sections of the population is crucial - Khan
Sadiq Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on today’s announcement on raising the age limit for juries, said:

“Juries being as representative as possible of all sections of the population is crucial to public confidence in our justice system.

"But the Government are putting this at risk with the reckless way they’re implementing a new system of registering to vote. This new register, which is the list from which jury members are drawn, risks excluding millions of mostly young people, BAME communities, students and those in rental accommodation. As a result juries could become less representative of our society, dangerously eroding public confidence in our justice system”
