Lucy Powell MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Childcare and Children, commenting on Elizabeth Truss’s speech to the Resolution Foundation event on meeting the childcare challenge for working parents, said:

“This is another announcement from Ministers that will have little if any real impact on the struggle with childcare that most families face.

“Families facing David Cameron’s cost-of-living crisis have seen costs rise 30 percent since 2010 whilst places fall and support for families has been cut.

“Labour’s guarantee for wrap-around primary school care would ensure families get some real help with the logistical nightmare many face.”
