Steve Reed MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Office Minister, responding to monthly crime figures for online shopping and auction fraud in the UK showing that online shopping and auction fraud rose by 24% between January and June 2013, said:
“The Government is failing to tackle the rapid growth of online crime. The latest figures show that online shopping fraud skyrocketed by 24 per cent in the first six months of last year. This is deeply worrying for millions of people who key in their credit card information to buy things on the internet.
“While the Tories make complacent claims about crime falling, new forms of crime like this risk spiralling out of control. A Labour government will act where the Tories have failed. We will bring Britain’s brightest IT graduates into the police to level the playing field against online fraudsters and get tough on identity theft.”
