Ministers must urgently get a grip and publish hidden Work Programme report - Rachel Reeves

Rachel Reeves MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, commenting on further reports of serious failings with the Work Programme, said:

“It’s no wonder that David Cameron wants to suppress this evidence, but everyone knows that the Work Programme isn’t working under this government.

“Over £1billion has been spent on the Work Programme, yet people who go through the scheme are more likely to return to Jobcentre Plus than get a sustained job. It’s increasingly clear that the Work Programme isn’t working, Universal Credit is failing, and the government’s disability benefit reform is a mess.

“A Labour government will introduce a Compulsory Jobs Guarantee to get more young people and long-term unemployed off benefits and into work.

“Ministers must publish this hidden report and urgently get a grip of this ineffective policy.“
