Chuka Umunna MP, Labour’s Shadow Business Secretary, commenting on the Resolution Foundation report More than a Minimum on the National Minimum Wage, said:

“This report is a welcome contribution at a time when we need to see the value of the National Minimum Wage properly restored after its erosion under the Tory-led government as families have been hit by a cost-of-living crisis.

“The Resolution Foundation is right to focus on strengthening the minimum wage and ensuring that where sectors can pay more, they do. Labour is working alongside businesses on how we can achieve these goals. Where this government has failed to tackle low pay and strengthen the minimum wage the next Labour government will act, including by incentivising firms to pay a living wage through Make Work Pay contracts.”
