Gareth Thomas MP, Labour’s Shadow Europe Minister, responding to the report from the EU Mainstream Group, ‘In our interest: Britain with Europe’, said:  

“Today’s report from the Conservative ‘EU Mainstream Group’ proves just how divided the Tories still are on Europe.

“Tory splits on Europe are nothing new, but now some of David Cameron’s own Ministers are so concerned about the damage being caused that they are publically pleading for a change of approach.

“We saw under John Major that a weak Tory leader with a rebellious eurosceptic party can cause real damage to Britain’s national interest.  

“Labour has set out a different approach. We believe that Europe must work better for Britain, and last week Ed Miliband set out real and specific reforms to help achieve that.”
