Mary Creagh MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, responding to the Office of Rail Regulation’s (ORR) Quarter 3 statistics, said:
“It’s shocking that more than one-third of commuter complaints relate to train punctuality and reliability. Train operating companies and Network Rail need to work together to get more passengers to their destinations on time.
“I welcome the news that East Coast saw the largest decrease in complaints from last year. East Coast is working well and will have returned £800 million to the taxpayer by the end of this financial year. David Cameron should tackle his Government’s cost-of-living crisis and cap rail-fare rises for struggling commuters instead of obsessing about handing East Coast over to the private sector.”
