David Hanson MP Labour’s Shadow Immigration Minister, responding to the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration’s report today, said: 

“This report is clear, the Home Secretary’s incompetence and inability to manage immigration is costing taxpayers money.  It is shocking to learn that the Government is letting thousands of people who shouldn’t be here spend years in detention paid for by the public when they could and should be on a plane home.

"This is a shocking report that gets to the very heart of why people can no longer trust David Cameron to get it right on immigration; thousands of travel notices which allow us to deport people who are here illegally are sat being ignored by Ministers. It’s unacceptable and the public will be rightly demanding answers.”
