Jack Dromey MP, Labour’s Shadow Police Minister, responding to the Public Administration Select Committee report: ‘Caught Red Handed: Why we can’t rely on Police recorded crime statistics’, said:
“Under David Cameron the credibility of the Government’s crime statistics lies in tatters. Just weeks ago, the statistics watchdog confirmed their crime statistics can no longer be relied upon and now the Public Administration Select Committee has said there is strong evidence that the Police under record crime.
“David Cameron’s Government has form. First they used misleading immigration figures, now they are caught using dodgy crime statistics, concealing the true levels of crime.
“The Home Secretary and the leadership of the Police Service must urgently restore public confidence in crime statistics.”
