Maria Eagle MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, responding to the Which? campaign ‘Stop Food Fraud’ calling on the Government to tackle food fraud and act on all the recommendations in Elliot Review; said:
“A year after the horsemeat scandal David Cameron has learned nothing. Consumers rightly want to know what they are eating, where it has come from and that the animals have been subjected to strict health and feeding rules.
“Whether our food is bought from a supermarket or from a restaurant, the Government must take greater measures to tackle food fraud and restore confidence in the industry. This means Ministers must act on all the recommendations in the interim Elliot Review, including a much stronger focus on criminality in the food chain, greater coordination across the European Union and statutory guidance for providing food to vulnerable people.”
