Tristram Hunt MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to the Government’s announcement on funding for school buildings, said:

“Michael Gove’s misallocation of funding – diverting scarce capital resource away from areas of critical need – has meant that pupils across the country have missed out on being educated in classrooms that are fit for learning.

“Instead of targeting funding to address need across the school estate, he has chosen to prioritise spending on his Free School vanity project.

“His Priority School Building Programme is decidedly not a priority, limping along at a staggeringly slow pace.”
