Few better tributes to those who made the ultimate sacrifice on the Western Front than taking our young people to walk the battlefields where so many fought and died- Dan Jarvis

Dan Jarvis MP, Labour’s lead on the First World War commemorations, commenting on the launch of the First World War Centenary Battlefield Tours programme, said:

“This important year of remembrance provides us with a unique opportunity to connect future generations with those who served our country a century ago.

“The First World War changed Britain forever. It touched every family, left its mark on every community and fundamentally altered our country’s place in the world.

“There are few better tributes we can pay to those who made the ultimate sacrifice on the Western Front than by taking our young people to walk the battlefields where so many fought and died.

“As well as commemorating the fallen, we must also remember the wider social changes that the conflict brought about, and educate young people about how it helped shape the lives we lead today. Today’s announcement will help that process and is extremely welcome.”
