David Hanson MP, Labour’s shadow Immigration Minister, responding to reports that people are able to fraudulently obtain ‘secure’ English language certificates, said:
"This government’s running of the immigration system is turning into a shambles.
"The Home Office needs to urgently examine these allegations of fraud and, if proved, take action against the centres and individuals concerned. The language test is vital and it’s incredible that stricter controls have not been put in place. I have written to the minister to ask for a full investigation and report to parliament.
"With this level of fraud, fewer illegal immigrants being turned away and fewer foreign prisoners being deported, this government is doing nothing to give the public confidence in its ability to control and manage immigration.”
