David Cameron’s government has run out of steam and ideas, leaving it unable to tackle the cost-of-living crisis.
The Queen’s Speech will show that this Tory-led zombie government has no solutions the challenges the country faces.
- The Government is spending less Parliamentary time on legislation than at any point during the last Labour Government
- Because the Government have no business, MPs have been given an extra month off each year
- With no ideas for new legislation, the Government is filling this years’ Queen’s Speech with a record number of carry-over Bills
- David Cameron’s Government has run out of steam and ideas, so the last session of Parliament had the fewest number of Government Bills compared to any other year since 1950 – fewer than even John Major’s administration
- The Government is doing less with more - despite saying he would “cut the cost of politics” David Cameron is now presiding over the biggest government ever
Labour Leader Ed Miliband MP said:
“Too many people have felt for too long they have been shut out of our country’s economy and ignored or let down by our country’s politics. Families are rightly asking whether any political party has solutions which meet the scale of the challenges faced by our country. David Cameron can’t deliver the change our country needs because he doesn’t understand it. The new legislative programme with a record number of carry-over Bills, coming on top of the extra time off this Tory-led Government has granted MPs shows they have run out of ideas. Only One Nation has a concrete plan to tackle the cost-of-living crisis which will enable Britain earn and grow our way to a better future for all.”
Labour’s Shadow Leader of the House Angela Eagle MPsaid:
“David Cameron’s zombie government has run out of steam and ideas.
“This government is growing in size and cost but has diminished in purpose. David Cameron has fewer Bills than even John Major’s administration in its dying days.
“People are struggling to make ends meet at the end of the month but David Cameron has no answers and Ministerial inertia has left Parliament bereft of business.
“This is David Cameron’s last chance Queen’s Speech to show that he can face up to the crisis in living standards in our country. He should follow Labour’s lead and take action to bring down energy bills, reform energy and banking markets, make work pay and protect our NHS.”
