NEWS FROM LABOUR: Maria Eagle MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, responding to the latest foodbank figures

NEWS FROM LABOUR: Maria Eagle MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, responding to the latest foodbank figures from Oxfam, Christian Action on Poverty and the Trussell Trust said;

“Food aid charities handed out more than 20 million meals last year to people in Britain, a staggering 54 per cent increase since 2013.

“That shouldn’t happen in Britain today. But it’s happening because of David Cameron and the cost-of-living crisis he is presiding over and failing to tackle.

“A Labour Government will tackle the problems that force people to turn to foodbanks for help by freezing energy prices, strengthening the minimum wage, extending free childcare, banning exploitative zero hours contracts, scrapping the Bedroom Tax and introducing a Compulsory Jobs Guarantee to get people off benefits and into work.”
