Sadiq Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, responding to reports that there are 90 inmates on the run from Ford Open Prison, said:

“It is shocking that so many have absconded from Ford Prison.

“David Cameron’s Government needs to answer important questions about why so many serious and violent criminals are waltzing out of open prisons and continue to remain at large.

“Ministers’ decisions have meant that the wrong sort of criminals are being sent to open prisons without the proper checks being made. Public safety is being put at risk because Ministers are failing to get the basics right.”
