Sadiq Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, responding to two further prisoners absconding from HMP Sudbury said:

“The number one priority is catching these men as a matter of urgency. After the recent surge of escapes on his watch, Chris Grayling claimed he’d put a stop to incidents like this, but still serious and violent criminals are going on the run on a worryingly regular basis. David Cameron’s incompetent Government is putting public safety at risk. Corners are being cut, with prisons closed and prison officer numbers slashed. The wrong kinds of prisoners are being shoved into open jails. Warm words of reassurance won’t keep the public safe – David Cameron needs to wake up, get a grip and put an end to the recent spate of absconds”
