David Cameron has broken his promise. Mental health services are at breaking point - Luciana Berger

Luciana Berger MP, Labour’s Shadow Public Health Minister, responding to warnings about mental health services from Professor Sue Bailey, the outgoing president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, said:

“The Government must listen to these warnings from Professor Sue Bailey about the state of our mental health services.

"Jeremy Hunt promised that people with mental health conditions would be treated the same as those with physical illnesses, yet it took him 16 months to visit a mental health service after he was appointed Health Secretary.

"David Cameron has broken his promise. Mental health services are at breaking point. There is a serious shortage of beds and vulnerable patients are having to travel hundreds of miles for the treatment they need.

"This is unacceptable. The Government must set out what urgent action it will take to address this crisis.”
