For Cameron to dismiss All Women Shortlists out of hand demonstrates what a low priority women are for this Prime Minister - De Piero

Gloria De Piero MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities, responding to Nicky Morgan being overruled by David Cameron following her suggestion that the Conservatives could introduce All Women Shortlists, said:

“Everyone knows David Cameron’s Conservatives have a women problem - the Women’s Minister admits it and even one of his own backbenchers has revealed that under this Prime Minister, there’s little room at the top table for women. Yet he won’t even consider All Women Shortlists, which have enabled Labour have more women MPs than all the other Parties combined.

“With 54 per cent of our target seat candidates women we are leading the way in ensuring Parliament is representative of the people it serves, but we can’t do it alone. For David Cameron to overrule his Minister for Women and dismiss such an important tool out-of-hand demonstrates what a low priority women are for this Prime Minister.”
