Response to Mike Wright review on advanced manufacturing
Ed Balls MP, Labour’s shadow chancellor, responding to the independent review commissioned by Labour on advanced manufacturing and published today by Mike Wright, executive director of Jaguar Land Rover, said:   “I’m very grateful to Mike Wright for consulting widely with business and producing such a comprehensive report on how we make the UK a globally competitive investment environment for advanced manufacturing.   “His report clearly sets out the challenges we face, including how we train more British students as engineers, better support science and innovation and have a proper long-term industrial strategy that promotes investment.   “All parties will have to respond to the challenge Mike Wright has laid out as we develop our policy agenda for the next election.”   Chuka Umunna MP, Labour’s Shadow Business Secretary, said:   “Labour is clear that the way to grow more of the high-skilled, better paid jobs Britain needs is through a proper industrial strategy, supporting long-term investment and working in partnership with business.   “Strengthening Britain’s manufacturing supply chains is a crucial part of this. I welcome Mike Wright’s report, which makes a hugely important contribution, including on how best we can support skills, unlock investment and underpin certainty.” Ends Editor’s notes   1.
