Sadiq Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on the news that yet another prisoner has absconded from Britain’s jails, said:

“Public safety is being put at risk by the incompetence of David Cameron’s Government. They have created a prison crisis meaning the wrong sorts of offenders are going to the wrong sort of prisons. Because of enormous pressures on numbers, the proper checks are not taking place.

“This is the latest in a growing list of prisoners going on the run over recent weeks. Chris Grayling boasted last month his new regime would put a stop to these absconds but all that talk is hot air. The Government needs to get a grip to protect public safety and before confidence in the prisons system is damaged even further.”
