Gareth Thomas MP, Labour’s Shadow Europe Minister, responding to the Foreign Affairs Select Committee’s Report ‘Gibraltar: Time to get off the fence’, said:
“This report underlines Labour’s repeated calls on UK Ministers to intensify diplomatic pressure on the Spanish government to make clear that their recent actions towards Gibraltar have been completely unacceptable.
“There continue to be disproportionate delays at the Gibraltar-Spain border and the continuing incursions into British Gibraltar Territorial Waters by Spanish flagged vessels are a cause for serious concern.
“That is why Labour continue to press the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on why no FCO Minister visited Gibraltar between 2011 and 2014, and why I have repeatedly called on the UK Government to consider stationing an enhanced Royal Navy presence in Gibraltar’s territorial waters.”
