Damning new data shows reality of England's A&E departments - Andy Burnham

In the week David Cameron claimed it was all getting better, damning new data has been released on the reality in England’s A&E departments.

New figures from NHS England this morning on performance at hospital A&E departments show the 95% waiting time target has been missed for the 50th week in a row and that in the last quarter - April to June - a record number of patients visited A&E, record numbers were admitted to wards and more patients waited longer than 4 hours than in any other spring period on record.

Andy Burnham MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, said:

“David Cameron has now got serious questions to answer on performance in A&E. These figures makes his spin look even more outrageous and cement a feeling his statements on the NHS cannot be trusted.

"David Cameron is failing to face up to what is happening on the ground. It is deadly serious out there and he is spinning a different story. What is urgently needed is honestly from the Prime Minister and a plan to turn round under pressure A&Es.”
