Alison Seabeck MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology, said:

“We will wait to see further details but it’s right that we must maintain Britain’s capabilities and support our defence industry.

"This announcement doesn’t change the fact that David Cameron has presided over a series of fiascos at the Ministry of Defence and wasted hundreds of millions of pounds on bad equipment decisions, IT failures and collapsed procurement reforms.

"He should clarify whether this is new funding or underspend from previous years which we were previously told was earmarked for existing projects. 

 

"Businesses, industry and the wider defence community need to be sure that the government is taking decisions based on what’s best for Britain, not on what helps this ailing government’s PR.”
