Douglas Alexander statement offering condolences to those affected by the crash of flight MH17
Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, Douglas Alexander, offering condolences to those affected by the crash of flight MH17 said:   “This tragic and horrifying incident has shocked people across the world.   “The loss of so many innocent lives is truly heart-breaking. My thoughts are with all those who have lost loved-ones, including the nine British citizens who were on board flight MH17.   “The UK government is right to call for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council.   “At that meeting, it is vital that Russia is asked to set out what it knew about the incident, and when it knew it, in order that all the facts can now be established.   “The UN Security Council must agree to an urgent and thorough investigation of this incident. That investigation must be undertaken by independent international experts and crucially it must have full and unimpeded access to the crash site.   “We welcome the decision to send UK experts to provide advice and support to both the Dutch and Ukrainian governments, and the UK should consider any further requests for support to help conclude this investigation swiftly and accurately.”   Ends
