Sadiq Khan MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, responding to reports that a parole board judge has said victims statements ‘make no difference’, said:
“The way the McGinty family has been treated is completely unacceptable. No bereaved family should have to tolerate this.
“This case is further evidence of why, after four years of the Tories letting victims down, we need a new approach. Labour will introduce a new Victims’ Law to guarantee minimum rights and standards and appoint a full time Victims’ Commissioner to champion the needs of victims and witnesses.
“This dreadful case should shock the Government into action so that victims’ voices are properly heard.”
