David Hanson MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Immigration, responding to news that a double murderer is being allowed into the country due to incompetence and the missing of deadlines by the Home Office, said:
“The fact is a double murderer is being let into the country because Theresa May has mismanaged her department so badly they can’t meet basic deadlines.
“It is an absolute disgrace and the public will rightly be furious that after four years in the job our borders are less secure because the Home Secretary isn’t paying attention to the details.
“This is a shocking case but it’s unfortunately part of a running theme of Theresa May’s time as Home Secretary; weaker borders, fewer foreign criminals removed and large scale incompetence in her department that has allowed murderers into our country and on more than one occasion stopped us getting rid of serious foreign criminals.
“The UK deserves better and the Home Secretary needs not only to apologise to the country for this mistake but make a commitment to improve performance so that incidents like this cannot happen again.”
