NEWS FROM LABOUR: "David Cameron has failed to stand up for working people strugging with the cost-of-living crisis - Mary Creagh comments on the rise in rail fares

Mary Creagh MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, commenting on the rise in rail fares, said:

“David Cameron has failed to stand up for working people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis, allowing train companies to hit passengers with inflation-busting fare rises of over 20 per cent since 2010.

“Today, passengers have learned their fares will rise by up to 5.5 per cent next year, potentially costing them hundreds of pounds.

“We can’t go on like this. A Labour government will cap fares on every route and drive through the biggest reform of the railways since privatisation, delivering a better deal for passengers and taxpayers.”
