Douglas Alexander MP, commenting on the breakdown of the ceasefire in Israel and Gaza, said:
“The breakdown of the temporary ceasefire in Israel and Gaza is a deeply worrying escalation of a conflict that has already gone on too long and cost too many innocent lives.
“The urgent priority must be an immediate end to the renewed violence. Reports that since the ceasefire ended over 100 people have been killed in Gaza, including children, are deeply concerning.
“All sides have a responsibility to avoid a return to the death and bloodshed of the past weeks. Egyptian mediators have in recent days managed to secure temporary ceasefires and the parties must now re-commit to working with the Egyptians, and others, to re-establish a more lasting truce.”
