Ivan Lewis MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, commenting on the death of former Irish Taoiseach Albert Reynolds, said:

“I am saddened to hear of the death of Albert Reynolds. His role in helping to secure a peace process for Northern Ireland was vital and will always be remembered. 

"He understood the importance of compromise in the pursuit of permanent reconciliation and he brought the leadership needed to ensure the creation of a process which ultimately led to the Good Friday Agreement.

"My condolences to his wife and all his family.”
