David Hanson MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Office Minister, responding to news that just one in four illegal immigrants on the run is being recaptured, said

“Yet again we have evidence that on Theresa May’s watch our borders simply aren’t protected. Due to the Home Secretary’s failure fewer people who abscond are now being tracked down and caught. Only 24% are being picked up. This is totally unacceptable.

"We need secure borders to stop people being in this country illegally but the Home Secretary has consistently taken her eye off the ball and just hasn’t paid attention to border security.  People will rightly be outraged by a Home Secretary who isn’t doing the basics to keep our country secure and our borders safe.”
